Do you know that for every one Canadian mother that dies
as a result of pregnancy,
over one hundred and
sixty Nigerian mothers suffer similar fate?
The
2006 Country
Mortality Fact Sheet from WHO reports that a
Nigerian mother has 160 times higher risk of dying from pregnancy
than a Canadian mother with the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in
Nigeria being
800 per 100,000
as compared to the MMR of
5 per 100,000
in Canada.
The
ConcernedNigerians,
in conjunction with the
Medicos Para La
Familia, is embarking on a
Medical Mission in
Nigeria (MMN)
with the support of the governments of
Lagos State
and
Ogun State.
This is a pilot project that shall initially last four weeks with
ultimate goal of making it an ongoing project focusing on reducing
Maternal Morbidity and
Mortality
in Nigeria.
The inauguration
ceremony of the
MMN
is slated for March 4th, 2008 in Lagos during which the
