A 19-year-old Nigerian goalkeeper, Joseph Kelachukwu, has signed a one-year deal with Romania’s CSM Unirea Alba Lulia FC.
Kelachukwu joined the Romanian team from non-league Ejike Ugboaja FC from Abuja, where he was the number one goalkeeper.
Speaking to reporters about the deal, Kelachukwu expressed his delight at taking his football career to a professional level abroad, from where he hopes to one day return to serve the nation.
He promised to represent Nigeria well in his foreign club and thanked CSM Unirea Alba Lulia management for finding him worthy to play for the club and also thanked Ejike Ugboaja FC management for giving him a chance to showcase his talents.
“I am ready to give my best to my new club as I prepare to meet my teammates in Romania on Saturday,” Kelachukwu said.
In his reaction, Ejike Ugboaja FC CEO Christopher Ejike Ugboaja said that Kelachukwu’s professional contract with the Romanian club will open doors for others, adding that they have good players at the club who can be the ones like Ronaldo. , Messi, Okocha, Kanu and the rest of the great players in the world.
He said the club’s goal is to raise good players and send them abroad where they will return home in the future to serve their motherland.
“I served Nigeria as a basketball player in all grade competitions, including the Olympics, so what we are doing here is training players who will return to serve their homeland just like I did,” he said.
Meanwhile, Kelachukwu left Nigeria on Thursday evening via Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, to join his new teammates in Romania on Friday.
