The National Directorate of Employment has provided a loan of N100,000 each to 42 young people trained in various schemes of the Rural Employment Promotion Department.

Our correspondent reports that the plans include the 2022 Community Farm Empowerment Plan, the 2022 Farm Improvement Plan, the 2022 Graduate Farm Empowerment Plan, and the 2022 Sustainable Farm Empowerment Plan.

Introducing the N4.2m loans to the beneficiaries, NDE Director General Abubakar Fikpo Nuhu said that the beneficiaries were carefully selected and trained in both the theory and practice of modern agriculturing.

Nuhu, who was represented by the state coordinator, Jediel Stephen, added: “This will lead to self-employment, poverty reduction and wealth creation in livestock management and horticulture.”

Speaking further about the importance of the loan, the Director General revealed that the beneficiaries were expected to take advantage of food security in line with the Federal Government’s policies of the Agricultural Transformation Agenda in Gombe State and the nation at large.

And he added: “For our part, we have fulfilled the task entrusted to us. Therefore, we hope that the beneficiaries will take advantage of the ample opportunity provided by training and resettlement with seed money to start farming as a business.”
