The African Youth Games have been confirmed to take place in Congo, Brazzaville, during Easter 2023.

The confirmation came on the sidelines of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) General Assembly which concluded in Seoul, South Korea.

The news is very welcome considering that it had previously been scheduled for 2022 in Egypt, but was later postponed.

Nigerian Future Eagles coach Charles Bassey is optimistic that the team will not disappoint in games.

“Hopefully we’ll start camp early enough and we’ll start running,” he mused.

“The All Africa Youth Games are very important to our boys and we will be ready for it, if they are given an early period to start camping.

The African Youth Games are a multi-sport event held every four years as a prelude to the Summer Youth Olympic Games.

It has not been held since 2018 due to the global pandemic.

The Association of African National Olympic Committees (ANOCA) are the organizers of the games that aim to discover young African athletes, both girls and boys from 14 to 18 years old, with about 30 sports codes.

Nigeria has participated in the last two editions in Gaborone and Algiers, improving their medal tally between the two Games.
