World 100m hurdles champion and record holder Tobi Amusan on Thursday claimed the 2022 EKOFM Lagos Person of the Year Award.

To win the award, Amusan earned 89 votes over runner-up Ejiro Otarigho, a tanker driver, who drove a burning fuel tanker away from a residential area in Agbarho, Delta state, to save lives of residents and Daniel Amah, a police officer, who turned down the sum of N200,000 from armed robbery suspects in Kano state.

The annual event, which is being organized by the News Department of Radio Lagos/EKOFMit is part of the Directorate’s efforts to recognize and appreciate Nigerians who are involved in activities of value to the community, society and country.

Radio Lagos/EKOFM General Manager Olajide Lawal advised Amusan to keep working hard.

Lawal, who made the remarks while presenting the award to Amusan’s manager Lanre Vigo in his office, said the award will serve as a motivation for the athlete to continue posting brilliant performances in international competitions.

While noting that the reward for hard work was more work, the station’s General Manager said the athlete should be proud to be associated with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former US President Bill Clinton, the late Nelson Mandela and the Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi, all former recipients of the award.

Amusan’s manager, Vigo, said the athlete, who thanked station management for the award, was delighted to be named the EKOFM Person of the Year award winner, adding that the hurdler vowed to make the country proud in 2023. .

Amusan became the first Nigerian world champion and world record holder (12.12 seconds) in an athletic event after winning gold in the women’s 100m at the 2022 World Championships.
