The APC 2023 Senate candidate for Benue South, Com. Daniel Onjeh, has received the full support of the “Igede In 2023 Movement”. That was the highlight of an interface between Com. Onjeh and the Movement yesterday, in Makurdi, Benue State. The “Igede Movement in 2023” is a sociopolitical organization made up of Igede elites in academia, business, politics, and public service around the world, under the leadership of Dr. Jonah Ogbaji.

According to a press release issued by Prince Maxwell Ogiri, Director of Media for the Onjeh Campaign Organization, while responding to the question of his readiness to an Igede Senator after his successful service to the people of Benue South, the Candidate for APC Senator, Com. Onjeh, stated that beyond the rhetoric and verbiage, there was a need for a legal framework for the rotation of power to accommodate the interests of ethnic minority groups and communities in Nigeria.

COM. Onjeh added that the rotation of powers and full autonomy of local governments will be high on the agenda of the 10th National Assembly, and assured his Igede relatives that if he is elected to the Senate, he will be an integral part of the critical mass. of federal legislators who would pursue this noble cause. Onjeh informed his hosts that since the creation of Apa State had become a mirage, only through the rotation of powers among the three senatorial districts of Benue State could a citizen of South Benue become Governor of the been in the future.

Speaking further on the occasion, Onjeh noted that given the deplorable state of the roads leading in and out of Igede land, which has literally cut people off from the rest of the world, if he were a PDP senatorial candidate who has held power in South Benue since 1999, he would have buried his face in shame to anyone from Igede, talking more about having the nerve to campaign for re-election anywhere in Igede land. He opined that this would amount to a blatant affront to the collective sensibilities and intelligence of the people of Igede.

Commenting further, Onjeh stated that it was obvious that religion and ethnicity were the least of the problems of the people of southern Benue, adding that the main problem of the Senate District was underdevelopment. “The people of Benue South, although predominantly Christian, are known to be very tolerant of other religions and ethnic groups. We have no history of religious crisis in our place; however, we have members of other religions living among us,” Onjeh noted.

COM. Onjeh added that, in fact, what we suffer in Benue South affects us all, regardless of religion or ethnicity; noting that all religions, ethnic groups and tribes in Benue South were exposed to the same level of underdevelopment that prevailed in the community.
