The Gunners will enter the top of the Premier League table in New Years after cementing their place with a win over Brighton on Saturday, New Year’s Eve at the Amex Stadium.

Arsenal defeated Brighton 4-2 after Brighton tried to stage a dramatic comeback in the match which was stifled by VAR, which ruled Brighton’s third goal out for offside in the 90th minute of the game.

Bukayo Saka scored the Gunners’ early goal in the second minute, captain Martin Odegaard doubled the score on 39 minutes and Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma put a goal into the back of the net for his team just on the brink of half-time, 45′.

Arsenal came from behind strongly in the second half with Eddie Nketiah scoring for his team just after the break, 47′ and Gabriel Martinelli making it four for the Gunners with a superb goal on 71′.

Evan Ferguson scored Brighton’s second goal, 77′, and his attempt at the third was ruled out by VAR for offside and brought relief to the Gunners.

The Gunners are now seven points clear at the top on 43 points with champions Manchester City sitting second on 36 points.

Brighton and Hove Albion are relegated in the league table to eighth place with 24 points.
