The Art Hotel has promised to sponsor more teams and tournaments in Nigeria, the punch reports.
The Art Hotel polo team is currently participating in the Lagos Polo Tournament Open Cup, their first appearance in a polo tournament, with a newly formed team consisting of team leader Neku Edun of Nigeria, Sadiq Dantata of Nigeria, JJ Alba from Mexico, and Genaro Ringa from Argentina.
Art Hotel Managing Director Tunji Abdul spoke about his plans for the community and his vision for the future.
“At Art Hotel, we believe that active participation in our community is vital and, as such, we are delighted to have the opportunity to sponsor the Art Hotel Polo Team at the 2023 NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament.
“At the Art Hotel, we not only consider “Art” in the traditional sense, such as paintings and sculptures, but we also consider that a competitive and visually stunning game like polo fits hand in hand with our vision of differentiated arts and their wide influence on culture in the broadest sense both in Nigeria and abroad. We look forward to sponsoring teams and tournaments in the future,” said Abdul.
Team leader Edun added: “It’s the first time we’ve played at this level yet, but now obviously we want to gain and also the experience because it’s important to learn from it and take advantage of it for future events.
“We are playing against teams that have been playing together for a long time, for this tournament, we are grateful to put the team together and get used to it and hope to keep the team for future tournaments.”
Art Hotel’s team lost to Trojan Hawk in their opener last Saturday and now they aim to return with a win against their next opponents STC Shoreline when they meet on Thursday.
“We have been testing horses, we have done a team practice together, we have horses that have been given to us by different people, for which we are very grateful, and after this conference, we are going to see our last video and find out where we are. We made mistakes because in the last game, we started to beat them, but then they came with more horsepower. We need to be better at anticipating and not giving up,” Edun said.
Alba and Ringa thanked Art Hotel and Nigerians for their hospitality, saying they felt very welcome in the nation and love the food.
