FIFA has said that Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can only play for Chelsea or Barcelona and not for any other club.

The Chelsea player had been linked with a move to Atlantic Madrid, after joining Stamford Bridge from Barcelona in September 2022 for a £12m deal.

Aubameyang, also in February 2022, left Arsenal after falling out with manager Mikel Arteta and was stripped of his captain’s armband and subsequently sold to Barcelona.

Having underperformed since joining Chelsea in the summer, the Blues are reportedly looking to dump the Gabonese forward.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that FIFA has restricted the clubs Aubameyang can play for to only Chelsea or Barcelona.

Romano in an Instagram post wrote: “Aubameyang cannot play for any club other than Barcelona and Chelsea due to FIFA rules. 100% confirmed.

“I’ve been told that Barca would love the idea of bringing Auba back… but only if it’s a 100% free transfer, different salary conditions and only if Memphis Depay leaves (Atleti want him).”
