He added that the decision to host the tournament in Ogun State was part of the federation’s plan to give the tournament greater national recognition.

The NSSF’s first president said she hopes the trials will help source talent that will win medals at the World School Athletics Championships.

“The inaugural edition was held in Lagos, and we saw the result with Ronke Akanbi’s performance winning Nigeria’s first gold medal at an ISF-organized event, and we look forward to winning more medals at this year’s event. .

“We must thank the Ogun State government for their decision to agree to host us and we are excited that we will be hosting this year’s edition in the state that will host the next National Sports Festival.

“We hope that students from all over the country will participate in the trials because we want Nigerian students to have the chance to be part of the team, and we are hopeful that more athletes will show up for the trials this year,” he said.

The young athletes will compete in three categories, Under-12 for elementary school, Under-15 for junior high school and Under-18 for senior high school students will compete in 64 events at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
