• Nigerians have been urged to support Atiku Abubakar and his running mate Ifeanyi Okowa in their 2023 presidential bid.

On Thursday, January 26, the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) adopted Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) as its 2023 presidential candidate.

Vanguard reports that CUPP spokesman Henry Eze, while speaking in Asaba, the capital of Delta state, said that the coalition of 11 south-south and southeast states agrees with the decision.

According to its zone president, Ken Ikeh, the coalition said the decision to adopt the Atiku-Okowa candidacy is in line with the vision of CUPP’s founding fathers.

Eze said;

“Atiku is a defender of restructuring and has promised to defend the devolution of power to the federated states.

“Atiku, having been vice president of Nigeria, is the most experienced of all the presidential candidates, and furthermore, his joint candidacy with Okowa meets the criteria for a Muslim-Christian candidacy.

“The choice of Atiku of Okowa as his running mate is an indication that the PDP presidential candidate cares about the Igbo people.”

The Punch reports that the coalition stated that Atiku’s stance on restructuring and education, as well as his experience and maturity in politics, are key to bringing Nigeria to an expected end.

Eze stated;

“We urge all political stakeholders, opinion leaders and elders in the geopolitical zone and all Nigerians of good conscience to support Atiku.”
