A former member of the Edo State House of Representatives, Festus Edughele, was abducted by suspected gunmen in Ubiaja on Monday morning while on his way from Orhionmwon to Benin City, the state capital.

This comes three days after 32 passengers waiting to board a train from Igueben station in the state’s Igueben local government area to Warri in Delta state were kidnapped by suspected herders on Saturday night.

Edughele was said to have been traveling to Benin to board a plane for Abuja when he was kidnapped by armed men and taken into the jungle.

A former speaker of the state House of Assembly, Festus Ebea, who confirmed the incident, said his former colleague intended to board the now-suspended train service from Ubiaja to Abuja.

Ebea said: “He was kidnapped this morning in Ubiaja on his way from Orhionmwon to Benin. He intended to take the train to Ubiaja but he was unable to do so as train services had been suspended.

“The family is aware of his kidnapping, the police division of that area has been informed and we hope that measures will be taken to rescue him,” he added.
