The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on the Independent National Election Commission to conduct elections that are deemed credible and fair in the year 2023.

The monarch also called on the country’s politicians carry out a peaceful campaign that would be free of bloodshed, pointing out that no ambition was worth the life of any Nigerian.

The New Year message further read in part: “As we enter a New Year, we give glory, honor and adoration to Olodumare, who has sustained us to see the end of the year 2022 despite all the economic and security challenges we face. as a nation. .

“2023 has arrived, a year to open another chapter in the history of our great country Nigeria, in terms of the enthronement of our leaders who will rule us for another four years. As we enter another electoral moment, we plead with the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct free, credible and fair elections.

“Our politicians should strive to maintain a peaceful campaign atmosphere that is free from bloodshed as no ambition of any politician is worth the life of any Nigerian.

“Therefore, let the will of the people prevail by allowing them to exercise their right to vote on Election Day and equally, allowing their votes to count as they make decisions to choose who controls their resources for the next four years.”
