Nigerian Human Rights Lawyer and Chief Advocate Femi Falana on Sunday called on the Federal Government to check passengers from China on their COVID-19 status.
Falana made it known in a statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday in Abuja.
In the statement, the learned silk advised the government not to wait until the country’s healthcare system is overwhelmed before taking the necessary steps.
He said: “It is public knowledge that there has been an increase in COVID-19 in China in recent weeks. Chinese authorities have been reporting around 5,000 cases a day. Some analysts have said that the Chinese government has underestimated the crisis.
“Development has forced many countries to place restrictions on passengers arriving from China. As usual, the FG has not taken any measures to prevent the spread of the dangerous disease through travelers arriving in Nigeria from China.
“In view of the poor health care system in the country, the FG should, as a matter of urgency, require passengers arriving in Nigeria from China to present a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than two days before departure. exit.
“A stitch in time saves nine, as they say. The government should not wait until the pandemic overwhelms the nation’s health care before taking the necessary scientific steps to prevent another surge in coronavirus infection.”
