An Iyaganku magistrate court in Ibadan, Oyo state, on Friday ordered a 32-year-old unemployed man, Abdullahi Abdulkadiri, to be remanded in a correctional facility on suspicion of attempted armed robbery.

According to the nigerian News Agency, Abdulkadiri, whose residential address was not provided, was charged with conspiracy and attempted armed robbery.

The Judge, Ms. O. A Akande, did not take the defendant’s statement for lack of jurisdiction. She ordered the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions pending legal advice. She deferred the case until February 22 for mention.

The prosecutor, Mr. Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendant and others at large allegedly conspired to commit the offence. Amusan alleged that he committed the crime on December 26, 2022, at around 7 pm in Ogbomoso district.

He said that the defendant, while armed with clubs and machetes, allegedly tried to rob Opeyemi Adeoye of his motorcycle worth N400,000.

The prosecutor said the offense contravened sections 6b and 2(a)(b) of Nigeria’s Theft and Firearms Acts 2004.
