The National Sports Council (NCS) has approved the inclusion of cricket in the upcoming 21st National Sports Festival (NSF) in Asaba, Delta.

Mohammed Manga, Press Director of the Federal Ministry for Youth Development and Sport (FMYSD), revealed this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said this development was part of the resolutions of a virtual meeting held by the council on Wednesday to deliberate on issues related to the 2022 NSF.

The meeting, which was also attended by Sunday Dare, the Minister for Youth Development and Sport, approved that parasports will no longer be included in the Games.

“The board approved that the three for mandatory sports in the NSF, namely; Para athletics, Para weightlifting and Para table tennis would no longer be included in the Festival.

“Members also approved the inclusion of cricket in NSF 21, as well as three demonstration sports, which are netball, teqball, and mixed martial arts,” Manga said.

He added that the Council also affirmed November 28 to December 10 as dates for the 2022 NSF.

“November 3-5 was also confirmed for inspection of facilities and joint technical meeting for the Festival,” the ministry spokesperson said.

The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Delta won the 20th edition of the Festival in Edo in 2021.
