Hundreds of voters for a former House speaker, Yakubu Dogara, on Thursday declared their support for All Progressive Congress presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, saying the Muslim-Muslim candidacy should not be a factor in the election. of the next year. .
Our correspondent reports that Dogara, who represents the Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro federal constituency of Bauchi state, has been one of the leading voices in the country opposing the APC candidacy of the same faith.
Not satisfied with his party’s decision, Dogara left the APC and joined the People’s Democratic Party, where he expressed his support for the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
But his relatives from the three local government areas of Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro, which make up his constituency, held a rally to show their support for Tinubu; her running mate, Kashim Shettima; APC gubernatorial candidate Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar (retired); and other APC candidates in the state.
The supporters, under the umbrella of the “Bogoro, Dass, and Tafawa Balewa Christian Support Group for APC”, said they gathered to tell their presidential candidate and the party that they would go house to house to mobilize support ahead of the general election. .
Speaking at the event, one of the rally organizers and former Dass/Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro hopeful, Dr. Godfrey Manasseh, said his decision to support Tinubu was due to his achievements in Lagos State when he was governor. .
He said: “We are here today as Christians from this constituency to declare that we have collectively decided to support Jagaban Nigeria. We have endorsed all the candidates, including Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
“Our resolution is due to several factors, some of which include the fact that Jagaban, as Governor of Lagos State, was able to raise Nigerian men. Jagaban is just an institution.
“He also has a wife who is a Christian, and he is a Muslim.”
Manasseh added that “APC allowed us to introduce the Speaker of the House of Representatives; under the APC, this constituency has obtained many projects, including the Air Force University, highways and others; we also had our brother and father, Prof. Elias Bogoro, as Executive Secretary of the TETFund”.
