Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu has called on the federal government to come to the aid of the Edo people over the deplorable state of the Benin-Auchi-Abuja highway.
According to him, commuters and commercial drivers on the road face many difficulties due to poor road conditions.
A statement Wednesday by Iviukhua Community Chairman General Kenedy Izuagbe shared with reporters in Abuja quoted Shuaibu as saying this during the Au-Ukhua Carnival.
It read in part: “As he spoke, the Lieutenant Governor called on the federal government to come to the aid of the people of Edo over the deplorable state of the Benin-Auchi-Abuja highway.
He said the repair was necessary because of the challenges it posed for passengers, drivers and area residents.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to bring development to his village’s doorstep and reported on ongoing development projects in the Iviukhua community, including a road project and renovation of the Iviukhua Primary School.”
At the event, former All Progressives Congress National Chairman Adams Oshiomole, Lieutenant Governor Shuaibu and Minister of State, National Budget and Planning, Prince Clem Agba, received official appointments as carnival ambassadors.
The carnival, which began with the Ukhua 7km Road Race with the participation of both male and female athletes, saw Mr. Emmanuel Ubighi emerging as the champion of this year’s edition of the road race with a time of 26.26 seconds in the category. male with Mallam Isah Abubakar. and Paul Okosun finishing second and third respectively in a time of 27.39 seconds and 27.43 seconds.
In the women’s category, Miss Joyce Ikhenoba emerged as champion with a time of 37.37 seconds, and Miss Jessica Iguzah and Miss Dangama Fidelia placed second and third with a time of 38.19 seconds and 39.33 seconds respectively.
However, Shaibu assured the community that the Ukhua 7km road race had received approval from the state government and that it would be ratified when the government received a formal request to that effect, adding that he would also prepare properly to be a part of it. of next year’s edition as one of the athletes
