The president of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, expressed his hope that Nigerians will not miss or seize the opportunity to elect leaders with focus and compassion who will lead the country to greatness during the upcoming general elections.
Also, on Sunday, he called on politicians seeking elective office to be responsible and conduct policy with the best interests of the masses in mind.
He also called on the government to do more to stop the downward trend of the economy by checking the sources of leakage and waste of national resources in 2023.
Okoh said this in his New Year Message titled: “2023 will be the year of a turnaround in Nigeria’s fortunes.”
Calling on religious leaders to know there is life after the 2023 general election, Okoh said their speeches and conduct should focus on encouraging people to build a Nigeria where fairness, justice and fairness prevail.
The statement read: “The year 2022 was too much as a result of the seemingly constant climate of fear and uncertainty, not just in Nigeria but around the world. However, as Christians, we will bear witness to God’s goodness and faithfulness in 2022, given the rampant attempts by criminal elements wielding sophisticated weapons to claim our lives and freedom, as well as the continuing decline of the national economy.
“In the midst of these challenges, 2023 is a year of golden opportunity for us as a people. I pray that Nigerians do not miss or misuse the opportunity to elect leaders with focus and compassion, who will lead our country to greatness.”
Okoh called on security agencies not to give up their efforts to ensure security in the country and also support holding peaceful general elections in 2023.
He added: “Our politicians should realize that we have no other country than Nigeria. Consequently, this reality should inspire them to be more responsible in making politics with the best interests of the masses in mind.
“In the same vein, religious leaders must know that there is life after the 2023 general election. Therefore, our speeches and conduct must focus on encouraging our people to build a Nigeria where fairness, justice and equity reign supreme.
“As we look forward to a better Nigeria, let us continue to pray that the Lord will strengthen our current political leaders to oversee the elections and a successful transition to a new administration in 2023.”
He also said the agency will continue to partner with government, civil society and development partners to build a peaceful and prosperous country.
“We remain impartial and will not interfere in the duties of government agencies, but we will always promote and support good governance at all levels. However, the body will continue to raise a prophetic voice when and where it is needed,” he added.
