The embattled Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele reportedly returned to the country on Wednesday, amid growing rumors that he will be arrested by the State Service Department.

Emefiele has left the country for several weeks after the investigation of several complaints against him, including corruption and financing of terrorism.

Remember that the DSS had kept quiet sought a court order to arrest Mr. Emefiele, but the Abuja Federal High Court rejected his request.

In the request, DSS wanted the court to order the arrest of the CBN governor for alleged “acts of terrorist financing, fraudulent activities, and economic crimes with a national security dimension.”

DSS filed the application marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2255/2022 with the court on December 7, 2022.

Mr. Emefiele was the only defendant in the lawsuit who filed ‘ex parte,’ meaning that Mr. Emefiele was not notified of the lawsuit.

According to a source who spoke to an online news platform, Premium Times, the CBN governor obtained permission from the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), for two weeks leave that expired on Tuesday.

“Her vacation ended on Tuesday, so she has to report to work on Wednesday,” the source said.

Meanwhile, the online news platform further reported that Mr. Emefiele plans to leave the country again very soon, fearing that the secret police will eventually arrest him amid the ongoing power play in the Federal Government.

“He is trying to leave in the next few days under the guise of attending the annual World Economic Forum,” his source said.

However, attempts to reach Principal Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu and Nigerian Central Bank spokesman Osita Nwanisobi for comment were unsuccessful by press time on Thursday afternoon.
