Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has condemned Nigerian presidential candidate Congress of all progressives (APC), Bola Tinubu, for saying that it is his turn to be president of Nigeria.

Mr. Tinubu uttered the now popular Yoruba phrase ’emi lokan’, meaning “It’s my turn”, while campaigning before delegates in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun state, in preparation for the APC presidential convention.

At the meeting, Mr. Tinubu recounted how his support ensured that Muhammadu Buhari became President of Nigeria after three failed trials. He said that he was the next person to become president of Nigeria and repeated: “It’s my turn.”

in a public letter on sundayMr Obasanjo said: “Let me say right away that ‘Emi Lokan’ (My Turn) and ‘I have paid my dues’ are the same thing and are the wrong attitude and mindset for the Nigerian leadership now.”

Those claims, according to Obasanjo, “cannot form the new pedestal to reinvent and invest in a new Nigeria based on an all-Nigeria government for the liberation and restoration of Nigeria.”

Obasanjo further said that no individual can claim to have the absolute solutions to the problems facing Nigeria, stating that “the solution must lie with ‘us’ and ‘us’ and not with ‘me’ and ‘me’.”

Buhari drags Nigeria below 1999 status

Commenting on the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari, the former president said the current government has dragged Nigeria down from the status it was in 1999 when he came to power.

“It hurt me that most of them didn’t realize that the Nigeria of today had been dragged so far below the Nigeria of the beginning of my presidency in June 1999,” he said of the presidential candidates.

He said he believes Nigeria today was in very poor shape and on the verge of collapse, but “was not facing the level of pervasive and mind-numbing insecurity, aimless leadership, driven by diversity mismanagement and pervasive corruption. , bad economic policies that result in extremes of poverty and mass unemployment and runaway inflation.

According to him, the four main factors to take into account in a leader during the next elections are what he called TVCP: “History of capacity and performance; Authentic, honest and realistic vision; Character and attributes of a lady and a gentleman who are children of God and obedient to God; and Physical and mental capacity with good judgment, since it is a very demanding and demanding task in the best of cases and even more so in the most difficult moment in which we find ourselves”.

Obasanjo in the letter then declared his support for Peter Obi, the Labor Party’s presidential candidate.
