Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired), is more determined than ever to ensure that the country remains one.

He added that the indivisibility of the country must be maintained since the strength of the nation lies in its diversity.

Osinbajo also said it was necessary to ensure that the work of the heroes of the past, especially those who paid the ultimate price, would not be in vain.

The vice president was speaking at an interdenominational church service organized to mark Armed Forces Remembrance Day 2023 in Abuja on Sunday.

Represented by Minister for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs George Akume, he urged citizens to place the interest of the nation above all other sectional interests.

He said: “It is necessary to place the unity of the nation above selfish/sectional interests by protecting our statements and adapting to our diversity and

sensitive to the situation of others.

“We need to blur the lines between ethnic and religious divisions through messages of tolerance for peace, unity and the progress of the country. This administration is more determined than ever to strengthen and promote the unity and indivisibility of Nigeria because the strength of this great nation lies in our diversity.

“The first verse of the national anthem says ‘the labor of our past heroes will never be in vain’ cannot be stressed enough, and that is why we cherish the memory of these fallen heroes who planted the seeds of unity, peace and progress, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice before our independence during World War I and World War II and also in the unfortunate Civil War that followed.”
