The The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa, has said that the Federal Government was prioritizing efforts to establish Nigeria as a leading hub for talent and innovation in Africa.
Inuwa said this at the closing ceremony of five days of digital literacy training for rural women’s participation and gender technology entrepreneurship and provision of IT tools for 60 participants organized by NITDA in Oyo city, Oyo state, says a statement from the agency.
DG NITDA, who was represented by Ag. Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr. Aristotle Onumo, urged the participants to use the knowledge and skills offered by the training to build a career and a new future for them in the digital economy space.
He described the training program as a means to “empower youth and stimulate creativity to improve the study skills of our youth so they can play their critical roles in the digital economy space.” “We also hope that everything you’ve learned today doesn’t stop here, but instead becomes an advocate for digital economy programs by reaching out to your own people and teaching them what you’ve learned,” he added.
The Director General of NITDA emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment to maximize the benefits of the digital economy and technology for individuals and communities, including the agency’s beneficiaries.
Training facilitator and Chairman of the House of Representatives Communications Committee, Hon. Prince Akeem Adeniyi Adeyemi, praised the efforts of the Agency and its supervising ministry, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, in ensuring that digital literacy permeates in all the nooks and crannies of the country. .
He said: “NITDA has lived up to expectations by ensuring that the economy of this country is being driven not only by oil but also by ICT.”
Honorable Adeyemi advised the young people to use this skill and knowledge that the training offers them and make sure that the community also benefits from it.
“We will not rest on our oars until the critical mass of our youth benefits from digital literacy,” he added.
Participants in the five-day training were said to be equipped with a laptop, an Internet dongle and a cash stipend for setting up micro-enterprises.
