The Federal Government has renamed the Katsina Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology, MIST, after President Muhammadu Buhari.
The institution, which is renamed ‘Muhammadu Buhari Meteorological Institute of Science and Technology’, was commissioned on Thursday, January 26, by the president.
Speaking to reporters after the institute’s launch, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET Director General Prof. Mansur Bako Matazu said the institute, which offers National Diploma courses in Meteorology, Climate Change Sciences and other technical and electrical related areas NBTE accreditation is the first of its kind in Nigeria and West Africa.
”The institution is currently seeking accreditation for the Higher National Diploma in Meteorology, Electro-Meteorological Technology and Climate Change Sciences in others to provide advanced training for graduates of the institute.
Prof. Matazu, who is also the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the World Meteorological Organization, WMO, said that the institution also offers support services and training to meteorological personnel from other African countries such as The Gambia and the Republic of Niger.
Regarding the institution’s ability to meet the established objectives, the Director General added that “NIMET has been carrying out training activities with facilitators within the agency, as well as with professors, researchers and professors from different higher institutions since 1957.
