…as IMC lists approved sites for 2023 NPFL
The seven-time Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Rangers International of Enugu, Lobi Stars of Makurdi, Nasarawa United, Kwara United and Niger Tornadoes will play their home games in the 2022/2023 NPFL season away from home, after their stadiums will not meet. with the infrastructure requirements established by the league’s Interim Management Committee as part of the licensing of clubs.
The five clubs will now seek alternative venues, based on IMC approval prior to the start of the league on January 8, 2023.
The matches of the first day in both groups of the abbreviated league were announced during the draw on Wednesday,
Following the draws for the 2022/23 NPFL season, the IMC released the matchday one schedules and match venues on Thursday.
Nasarawa United will host Enyimba in one of the Group A matchday one fixtures at the New Jos Township Stadium, Jos, while Kwara United will host Gombe United at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
Other Group A matches will see Akwa United host Bendel Insurance at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, Plateau United vs Shooting Stars at Jos Township Stadium and Remo Stars vs El-Kanemi Warriors at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne.
In Group B, Rangers International will play Abia Warriors at Awka City Stadium, where they adopted last season.
The rest of the fixtures will see Bayelsa United take on Dakkada at Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenegoa, Wikki Tourists take on Niger Tornadoes at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, Doma United host Sunshine Stars at Pantami Stadium in Gombe and Cup Rivers United will host Lobi Stars at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Davidson Owumi, IMC Head of Operations, said that in strict compliance with the provisions of the NPFL Club Licensing Regulations, clubs that do not meet the requirements will be held accountable.
“We want to do it right from the beginning and that can only be achieved when the rules are followed,” he insisted.
The 2022/23 NPFL season will begin on January 8, 2023.
