Five people have been confirmed dead, while four others are in critical condition as a result of the commotion that followed a new year party organized by a group of friends in Akinmori, in the Afijio local government area, in oyo state.
PUNCH Metro deduced that the crisis occurred when one of the organizers was attacked with his tongue by his colleagues for recklessly driving to the party location.
This, according to one of the eyewitnesses, did not sit well with him and he then got into his car annoyed.
A source who did not want to be named said: “The young man entered the party venue at high speed and was being scolded by his friends who were already at the party venue.
“After the intervention of some elderly people from the surrounding area, the young man reluctantly got into his car. Still angry from the confrontation, he vowed to spill blood. He then started the car and approached the dancing friends, knocking over 10 people down.”
Our correspondent’s investigations, however, revealed that three of his friends, who were in the car at the time of the sad event, had been arrested while their whereabouts were still unknown.
When contacted by phone, state police public relations officer Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident, saying police had already started an investigation into the ugly incident.
He said: “The investigation has started on the matter. Updates will be provided accordingly, please.”
