The AFCON Under-20 2023 will be played in Egypt between February 19 and March 11 and the top four teams will qualify for the Under-20 World Cup in Indonesia in May.
“The team will train in Morocco, which has a similar climate to Egypt, which is very cold at the moment and the team needs to get used to it in time for the tournament,” said a team official, speaking on condition of anonymity. .
“Logistical challenges such as obtaining visas to Spain for a large contingent and in record time also played against the Flying Eagles who were preparing there.
“Egypt was also considered a suitable training location for the Soaring Eagles, but that was dropped after the team drew in the first round with the host nation.”
The Flying Eagles are expected to leave for Morocco at the end of the month after coach Ladan Bosso submitted his final 21-man squad to the African Football Confederation on January 20 for the tournament.
Nigeria is tied with hosts Egypt, Senegal and Mozambique in the first round of the continental tournament.
