Former North-Eastern Secretary of the New Nigerian People’s Party, Dr. Babayo Liman, said on Sunday that the NNPP and its presidential candidate, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, lacked the structure and capacity to govern Nigeria.
Liman, who revealed this in Jalingo, Taraba state, while addressing supporters at a press conference, said he defected to the People’s Democratic Party to help Atiku Abubakar win the February 25 presidential election.
“NNPP lacks the structure to win elections. I have seen the PDP as a vehicle to liberate Nigeria from the many challenges facing its citizens. The PDP and Atiku have a structure that can win elections.
“Atiku was part of the government of former President Olusegun Obasanjo that recorded numerous achievements. For example, during the PPD administration, insecurity was only in three states, now it is everywhere. Poverty was not so much, that’s why I follow Atiku.
“Kwankwaso has shown that it cannot address the needs and desires of Nigerians. If he can’t handle the internal crisis at NNPP with only 30 executives, how can he handle Nigeria with over 200 million people?
“Even among the executives, only four of us were active, the remaining members were ghosts and we never saw them, so how can such a party win elections?” she asked.
The former NNPP chief said that as part of the traditions, it was necessary for him to inform his followers about his defection and his next move.
Asked when he discovered that NNPP and Kwankwaso were not the solutions for Nigeria, Liman said that Kwankwaso drew them to NNPP because of their popularity and support base in the region, but their inability to resolve internal party issues was a clear indication. that he was not ready to rule Nigeria.
