Former environment commissioner in Osun state, Idowu Korede, passed away after failing to recover from illness on Saturday.

Korede, served as a commissioner in the cabinet of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola, during his second term as Governor of Osun State.

He was also a notable figure in the now-defunct ‘Los Progresistas de Osun’, a group within the Osun State chapter of the Aregbesola-backed Congress of All Progressives at the height of their disagreement with his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola.

In addition to serving as a commissioner, Korede, who hailed from Ilesa East as Aregbesola, was once the president of the local government.

The circumstances surrounding his death were unclear, but sources said the late Korede had been struggling with an undisclosed health issue; the situation that limited his public appearance.

Speaking to our correspondent, former Osun State APC Chairman Mr. ‘Lowo Adebiyi confirmed Korede’s death, describing him as a ‘reliable and trustworthy’ person.

Adebiyi said: “He was one of the great leaders of our tendency. He was very brave, honest and hardworking. He was someone who could be trusted and highly principled, and he believed in the ideals of the party hierarchy, fairness and justice.

“He will be greatly missed in our trend as far as the Ogbeni Rauf (Aregbesola) group is concerned. He contributed a lot when he was Commissioner of the Environment in the state.

“He was also the president of the local government of Ilesa Este when we (APC) had the highest number of votes in the land of Ijesa. He died yesterday (Saturday) night in Lagos”.
