No less than four people have been killed in an explosion that rocked the palace of Ebiraland’s supreme ruler in the ancient city of Okene, the Ohinoyi, Dr. Ado Ibrahim.

The explosion occurred around 9 am Thursday, when the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), was expected to arrive in the state for the inauguration of Governor Yahaya Bello’s projects.

One of the projects was the Okene hospital that is located in front of the palace.

According to an eyewitness, a car exploded, killing two people inside and hitting the back door of the palace.

In addition, it was learned that the explosion affected two motorcycles, since the two drivers were killed.

Charred corpses were sighted at the scene of the explosion even as security agents sealed off the area.

An eyewitness, who spoke to the Nigerian News AgencyHe said: “I was in the house when I heard a loud explosion; When I came out, I saw a burning car, along with two motorcycles, near the second gate of the Ohinoyi palace. The explosion was massive, with three bodies on the ground around the palace.”

Kogi police public relations officer SP Williams Ovye-Aya, who confirmed the incident, described it as “very unfortunate and shocking”.

Ovye-Aya said police were aware of the situation as security officers had already sealed off the area.

He said the investigation into the explosion had begun.
