Taiwan Beer ended its 6-game winless streak on Wednesday with a 61-59 victory over Changhua Bulili in the SBL Pre-Season Tournament and on Thursday defeated SBL 2022 champions Taiwan Bank 68-58 to record a consecutive victory by first time since Humphrey Gabriel was drafted into the team.

Gabe, who was the MVP player in the win against Changhua Bulili with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, led the Bears to another win on Thursday with 8 points and 8 rebounds.

“We were more relaxed after the win on Wednesday gave us more confidence, we’re not there yet but we’re going to get better once the league starts,” says Gabe.

Taiwan Beer is the oldest team in the SBL and has won the SBL 6 times, but they awarded the title to Taiwan Beer in the 2022 season and Gabe hopes to help the Bears win the title back.

“We want to win the championship, we know it will be difficult, but we are prepared,” said the former Colorado Grizzlies forward.

Humphery Gabriel was recruited from Vanung University after leading the Lions to the UBA Div 2 title in 2021 and then finished fourth in UBA Div 1 in 2022.

The Nigerian who won the CBL with Extra Joss Fighters of Cambodia in 2019 is used to championship battles and can’t wait for the season to start.

“I can’t wait for the season to start, I really can’t wait. I hope to be in good shape when we hit the ground for SBL 2023,” said Gabe.

Taiwan Super League Basketball
(SBL) begins on January 7.
