Gombe State Government Secretary, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, has ordered, on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya,
the immediate fumigation of Gombe International Airport.

Our correspondent reports that the fumigation will ensure the protection of human lives against flying and crawling pests, especially since the airport is surrounded by bushes.

Njodi, who gave the directive when he led senior government officials to inspect the upgraded facilities at Gombe International Airport on Friday, said the safety of staff and passengers remains the government’s priority.

He said: “You must contact the Ministry of the Environment for immediate fumigation. They have all the necessary facilities to fumigate the airport environment”

The SSG further ordered that the report of all necessary facilities in the short, medium and long term be sent to his office for the government to take immediate action.

“The operation of the airport is strictly commercial, so it provides the government with an additional source of income,” he added.

He denounced the level of deterioration of the facilities at the airport despite the government’s effort to ensure it met international standards, stressing that the government’s effort to industrialize the state would remain a mirage without a decent airport.

Njodi also praised the airport’s sole administrator and his team for tackling the perennial water issue and the quality work they were doing to upgrade the airport facilities to meet global standards.

Leading the SSG and its entourage through the Airport, the Sole Administrator, Eng. Mohammed Kabir, briefed the SSG on the level of work carried out in accordance with the mandate given to him at his appointment.

He called for expedited action on the soon-to-be-sent report on the equipment needed for the required airport upgrade.
