Saudi Arabia, Jeddah – The Nigerian National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Saudi Arabia ahead of the 2023 Hajj exercise.

This was reported by the Vanguard newspaper on Monday, January 9 in its publication that NAHCON delegates met with delegates from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj to draft the MoU in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

legit.ng met that the agreement was drafted by Amb. Zubair Dada, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Also present at the MoU signing was NAHCON CEO Alhaji Zikrullah Kunle Hassan and three other executive commissioners of the board.

Content of the MoU

According to the report, it was collected that some of the major highlights of the MoU include the increase in slots for Nigeria in the upcoming 2023 Hajj exercise later this year in Saudi Arabia.

This means that Nigeria will have 95,000 pilgrims this year with 75,000 spread across all 36 states, including the FCT, and the remaining 20,000 going to private tour operators.

The Saudi Arabian government in signing the MoU assured Nigerians of quality welfare and a better Hajj than 2022.

Ahmad Sindi, president of the Mutawwif of African Non-Arab, made it known when NAHCON delegates met with him.

Sindi also revealed that accommodation and comfort have been increased and stated that the Hajj 2023 exercise uses a double deck on the Mashair for various countries.

He advised that the preparatory activities of potential participants should start in earnest to ensure a smooth Hajj exercise in 2023.
