the police in delta statesouth-south Nigeria, said they killed two suspected kidnappers in the state.

This was announced this Tuesday in a statement by the police spokesman in the state, Bright Edafe.

Mr. Edafe, deputy superintendent of police, said the suspects were killed after some police officers, who were on surveillance patrol, intercepted them on December 24 around 11:00 p.m.

It said the suspects were intercepted along the Okumagba Estate roundabout in the state’s Warri South local government area while riding a tricycle.

When the suspects were searched, three live cartridges concealed under the seat of the trike were recovered, he said.

“The suspects were arrested. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a five-man kidnapping syndicate operating in and around Warri,” Edafe said.

The police spokesman said that, following their confessions, the suspects on December 25 led police officers to their hideout on Upper Erejuwa Street, a place where they recovered an AK-49 rifle, a long pistol locally made double barrel and two machetes.

It said while returning to the police station, the suspects jumped out of a moving police Toyota Hilux vehicle in an attempt to escape, prompting officers to chase them.

“In an attempt to demobilize them, the agents mutilated them and re-arrested them. The suspects gave up on the way while being taken to the hospital,” he said.
