Napoli’s star player Victor Osimhen said he exceeded the personal expectations he had set for his career and that he owes his success to God.
Osimhen said this during a conversation with Nigerian sports content creator, Oma Akatugba, posted on Instagram on Monday.
The 24-year-old Nigerian international said he attributes his success as a footballer to a lot of pain, tears and failure that have made him the star player he is today.
The top scorer in Serie A so far in the 2022/2023 season, he said he experienced many obstacles on this journey to the top, adding that many looked down on him and never expected him to achieve the level of success he currently enjoys. .
He also said that he is happy to prove his detractors wrong.
Asked if he had exceeded his goal as a footballer, Osimhen said: “For me more than 100 per cent, more than 1001 per cent, because I set myself a standard, the kind of life I want to live and even when things were It didn’t go so well for me, I kept believing, dreaming, praying and working hard, doing all kinds of jobs before going back to my true love, football.
“There were many obstacles along the way to get to where I am today. Lots of hate, backstabbing and also love. I attribute my success to a lot of love, pain, tears, failure. Many did not believe that he could make it, they said that he would not survive two years. They laughed at me when two clubs turned me down in Belgium, but I never let that get to me.
“Either you take it as they have said or you show them that they are absolutely wrong. God so good that I have proven them wrong. I’m playing for one of the best clubs in Europe, I’ve been nominated for youth player of the year, I’ve won so many personal awards for myself, which I feel is a huge milestone for me, considering the fact that I went through a lot of trouble that They threatened my life, I came back and I’m doing pretty well.
“That’s why every time I wake up I’m so grateful to God and I thank him for everything, because if I hadn’t gotten to where I am today, I would have given a lot of people a reason to talk bad about me in my career. I am winning against the odds and I have won against people who wrote me off and wished me the worst on my journey.
“I’m so thankful to God for where I am today and I know he’s not done with me.”
Osimhen is the top scorer so far this season in the Italian Serie A league with 14 goals scored in 16 games played.
