Thousands of supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, stormed Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, on Saturday to attend a rally in support of their presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his running mate, the Senator Kashim Shettima, former Governor. of the state (2011 to 2019).
Tinubu and his PCC Presidential Campaign Council team, led by CPA National Chairman Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Jigawa State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, who represented the Director General of the Campaign Team, Governor Simon Lalong , We were in the palace of the Borno Shehu as the first stopover point.
His Eminence, Dr. Abubakar Garbai Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, in his speech, thanked Tinubu and his entourage for the visit and prayed for successful, peaceful, credible and smooth campaigns and the subsequent election.
The royal father said the visit was a mark of respect for the traditional council and called for improved security as well as rehabilitation of basic infrastructure.
He mentioned federal highways, electricity, the revival of the Lake Chad Basin Authority, the resumption of oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin and the recruitment of unemployed youth, among others, if given the mandate.
Tinubu, before leaving for the rally venue, thanked the traditional ruler for his blessings and vowed to pay close attention to traditional institutions across the country if he is elected president.
During the rally, the Jigawa state governor urged the people of the state to vote for Tinubu and Shettima and all the other APC candidates in next week’s general election.
Addressing the huge crowd at the Elkanemi Sports Center in Maiduguri, presidential candidate Tinubu vowed to lead a true government of the people by the people and for the people if elected in next Saturday’s elections.
He reiterated that he will lead a government of hard work, honesty and responsibility in managing the country’s affairs.
“People of Borno, I am very grateful to all of you for coming out en masse to receive us.
“If I am elected as your president, I promise to lead a true government of the people by the people and for the people.
“I would lead a government of hard work, honesty and responsibility in running the country’s affairs,” Tinubu said.
The party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, also welcomed the participation in the rally.
Expressing confidence in the party’s ability to win the election, Adamu said: “Nothing apart from God’s will will deprive us of victory in the election.”
Governor Babagana Zulum and Borno political strongman Ali Modu Sheriff said it is time for the people of Borno state to take revenge for Tinubu’s choice of Kashim Shettima as their running mate.
The sheriff, who observed that no Nigerian loves Borno more than Tinubu, recalled how Tinubu helped him win his second gubernatorial bid in 2007.
Governor Zulum expressed his confidence that “Tinubu would maintain the confidence that the people of Borno would place in him by electing him president next Saturday.”
The vice-presidential candidate, Senator Shettima, in his speech, expressed happiness for the large turnout.
He also promised that when he is given the mandate to elect Tinubu as president, the much-talked-about and protracted oil exploration along the Lake Chad basin will be reviewed.
According to him, the resumption of oil exploration in the region will not only generate income, but also provide job opportunities for the youth and women of the team in the state and the Northeast sub-region.
Earlier, in his welcoming remarks, APC State Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori assured Tinubu that on Saturday, February 25, the people of Borno would vote for APC candidates “from top to bottom”, considering development progress. implemented by former Governor Shettima and his successor, Governor Zulum, covering education, health, agriculture, poverty alleviation, among others.
Governors Abdullahi Ganduje, Mai Mala Buni, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, Inuwa Yahaya and Abdullahi Sule of Kano, Yobe, Jigawa, Gombe and Nassarawa States, Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Kadafur, Speaker of the House of Assembly of Borno State, Abdulkarim Lawan, as well as several party stalwarts including former Governors Ali Modu Sheriff, Maina Maaji Lawan, former Lieutenant Governors loyal to the party, APC candidates attended the rally.
