Police Inspector General Usman Baba has recommended the immediate suspension of a Police Deputy Superintendent, Drambi Vandi, the officer attached to the Ajah Division Headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command, responsible for shooting and killing Omobolanle. Raheem, while waiting for the detailed report on the incident.

The Nigerian Police Force revealed this in a Wednesday statement from the Force’s spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, obtained by our correspondent.

The IGP noted that the officer’s suspension recommendation was in line with the Force’s internal disciplinary processes.

Adejobi said: “The IGP further noted that the suspension is also expected to create an environment conducive to the legal proceedings necessary to uphold justice in the case without interference.

“The suspension is without prejudice to the constitutional presumption of innocence in favor of the official.

“In the meantime, the IGP has reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the rule of law and assured the public of his administration’s commitment to ensuring that justice is not only done but seen to have been manifestly done in the matter.

“He therefore calls on the public to remain calm as all hands are on deck to ensure that justice prevails, while measures are in place to prevent future incidents.”
