The Bayelsa United manager has been summoned to a disciplinary hearing to provide evidence to support allegations of biased refereeing he made after their Matchday 4 game against Lobi Stars.
The club’s technical adviser, Deprieye Tebowei, was quoted in the media as having accused the match referee of officiating partial in their 3-0 loss at Makurdi, an action deemed misconduct by the Interim Management Committee (IMC). ) of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
The hearing is scheduled for February 7, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the league secretariat.
In the subpoena addressed to Bayelsa United, the IMC Legal and Compliance Unit wrote: “It has come to our attention that Bayelsa United Technical Advisor Deprieye Tebowei has made reckless and offhand comments calling into question the sporting integrity of the Nigerian Premier. . Soccer League.
“The comments that have been posted on various media platforms were made after the Matchday 4 match: Lobi Stars FC vs. Bayelsa United FC.
The club was reminded that the league has official channels through which complaints and claims can be communicated and addressed.
It went further by noting that “comments of this nature constitute misconduct under Framework Rule C1 and the NPFL Rules, as it is capable of bringing the league into disrepute.”
Relying on Rule C9 of the NPFL framework and rules, which require “clubs to monitor their players and officials to ensure their proper conduct at all times,” the IMC said that “coach Deprieye Tebowei and the chairman of Bayelsa United are invited to a consultation setup panel in accordance with Framework Rule C15 and NPFL Rules.”
They are expected to come along with documents or other verifiable evidence to back up the post-game comments in question.
