The Independent National Election Commission has said it is cleaning up the details of underage voters on the register of registered voters.

The Commissioner of Voter Information and Education of the commission, Festus Okoye, said so during an interview on Channels TV, on Friday night.

Okoye, who was asked what the commission was doing regarding underage voters and non-Nigerians, said: “On the issue of underage voters, this commission published the totality of registered voters in Nigeria in various local government areas and all registration areas. .

“People have made their objections, complaints and claims. The commission is currently cleaning up the voter registry. Cleaning up is an ongoing exercise and we will do everything we can to ensure we go into the 2023 General Election with a voter registration Nigerians will be proud of.

“In terms of non-Nigerian voting, only validly registered voters will be eligible to vote in the 2023 general election. Anytime the Immigration Service sees a non-Nigerian with a voter card claiming to be a Nigerian, they must arrest him and make the card available to INEC and we cancel those records.

“Therefore, Nigerians should be vigilant. If any non-Nigerian approaches any of the voting units, he must alert the security agencies”.
