The international training program entitled “Eco-production and waste management in the leather industry” was completed with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
From November 21 to December 2, 2022, the international training program entitled “Ecological production and waste management in the leather industry” was carried out, as part of the cooperation program carried out by the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, TİKA, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and TÜBİTAK Bursa Laboratory of Testing and Analysis (BUTAL) since 2018.
The training, which involved a total of 14 trainees from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sudan, Tanzania, Tunisia, Vietnam and Zimbabwe, aims to increase labor productivity and enhance the knowledge and professional experience of trainees. trainees from developing countries. , introducing innovative and ecological approaches in the field of sustainable and clean production technologies, especially in the leather industry.
The two-week training program included presentations on recycling and reusing chemicals, water and energy used in the production stages of the industry, thus avoiding pollution at its source and reducing production costs in the leather industry. .
Technical excursions were organized
In addition to theoretical training provided by professors from the Department of Leather Engineering at Ege University, technical field trips were organized to wastewater treatment plants and facilities in organized leather industrial zones in Izmir and Bursa, to the Center Research Center TÜBİTAK Marmara and the pilot plant affiliated with the Department of Leather Engineering at Ege University.
The participants of the technical field trips received extensive information about the tests and analyzes carried out in the relevant departments of TÜBİTAK BUTAL.
The closing ceremony held for the training program was attended by officials from the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye, UNIDO and TÜBİTAK BUTAL, as well as the participants. At the ceremony, the speakers highlighted that this type of international training programs have a positive impact on bilateral cooperation. Certificates were then handed out to the participants.
