Avengers actor Jeremy Renner is in critical condition after undergoing surgery following an accident while clearing snow outside his home with a snowplow.

According to BBC News, Renner suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries and is still in intensive care, her publicist Samantha Mast said in a statement to US media late Monday.

He was airlifted to the hospital on Sunday after the crash while clearing snow in front of his Nevada home.

“Jeremy’s family would like to express their gratitude to the incredible doctors and nurses who care for him,” the statement added.

The family also thanked the local police and fire department, saying they were “tremendously overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of love and support from their fans.”

The United States experienced a major snowstorm during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, with at least 60 people dead in eight states.

Renner is a two-time Oscar nominee and is best known for his role as Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the Marvel’s Avengers series and the spin-off television series Hawkeye.

He had previously shared updates on the amount of snow in his area, tweeting in December that “Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke.”
