The Kogi state government has issued a query to the Supreme Traditional Ruler and Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Ado Ibrahim, for refusing to welcome the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (ret.), to the state.

Buhari, who was in the state on December 29, 2022 to inaugurate some projects including the Ohinoyi palace built by Governor Yahaya Bello, was received by senior government officials and top traditional rulers, but the vice president of the council of heads of the Kogi state was absent. .

In a letter to the prominent monarch signed by Enimola Eniola, Headquarters Affairs Director, Ibrahim was accused of exhibiting a deliberate attitude and actions capable of seriously discrediting the “Kogi State and Ebiraland in particular.”

According to the letter, he refused to go out to receive the President at the designated place duly approved by Governor Bello.

The letter stated: “It has been noted with great concern that you have exhibited an attitude and deliberate actions capable of seriously discrediting the Kogi state and the land of Ebira in particular. These actions are quite unbecoming of a revered Royal Father of his status.

“Specifically, you were aware through many forums of the glorious visit of Mr. President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari to Okene on December 29, 2022 to commission flagship projects. executed by our beloved Governor, His Excellency, Yahaya Bello.

“In flagrant contempt for the people and high positions of the President and the Governor, you categorically refused to go out to receive the President in the designated place duly approved by the Executive Governor of the State.

“You may be interested to note that official courtesy requires that when a personality from a president who holds the highest office in the country visits or even passes through the state, the governor and major public officials, including major traditional rulers, are expected to , receive it as a sign of respect for him and the position he occupies.

“It is on record that in the past, the top traditional rulers, including the president, the Kogi Council of Heads of State, received the governor of the state upon his return from critical missions conducted on behalf of the state. But he has chosen to spurn the position of Executive Governor, and this time he did it brazenly in front of Nigeria’s number one citizen.

“This action of yours is an act of insubordination and disloyalty to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Executive Governor of Kogi State and the entire Ebira Nation as a whole.

“It poses a serious danger to the security of the state and sets a bad precedent for the traditional institution of the SMstate.

“In view of the foregoing, I have been
directed to request that you submit a written explanation within 48 hours of why disciplinary action should not be taken against you for these acts of insubordination and disloyalty.

“Oral explanations may be required of you when a panel is established to review your case. It is expected that you will give priority to the content of this letter, Your Royal Majesty.”
