KRC Genk have signed Nigerian striker Toluwalase Arokodare at the transfer deadline.

Genk was in the market for a direct replacement for Paul Onuachu, who left for Southampton, and quickly turned to Arokodare, who nearly signed for Anderlecht.

The Nigerian was in Neerpede on Tuesday night, with his medical examinations.

However, the striker left Neerpede and drove straight to Genk after receiving a call from Genk’s director of football, Dimitri De Conde.

Arokodare then signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Valmiera, although he had played on loan at French second division club Amiens.

The deal is reportedly worth €4.5 million, which could increase to €7 million at the end of the contract.

Arokodare scored eight times and provided two assists for Amiens.

Meanwhile, Anderlecht turned its attention to Islam Slimani, the 34-year-old striker for Stade Brest, after the deal for Arokodare fell through.
