Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s bid to become president of Nigeria on the platform of the New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP, in the upcoming general election suffered a setback on Sunday when the party’s North-East Zonal Secretary, Dr. Babayo Liman, I quit. of the party and went over to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, together with his supporters.
Briefing reporters on the reasons behind his departure from his former political party, Liman said the party “doesn’t have a single structure on the ground that would guarantee it wins a nationwide election.”
He also assured that the party’s presidential candidate does not have the capacity “to succeed in the next general elections.”
Liman who said that he has left the party forever said:
“I resigned from my appointment as NNPP North East Zonal Secretary and joined the PDP to support Atiku Abubakar and the PDP gubernatorial candidate for Taraba state.”
He cited the cold war raging in the Bauchi state chapter of the NNPP, which he said the presidential candidate was unable to resolve, as an indication that entrusting Nigeria to him will not bode well for Nigerians.
Liman claimed that apart from the Kano state, that he [Kwankwaso] presided over as governor, there is no other strong credential to flaunt to show that you can run Nigerian affairs.
He claimed that all party executives in the northeast have gotten rid of the NNPP.
Some of the party leaders in Taraba who spoke to the DAILY POST said they are also about to go the way of party executives who are “now dining and drinking with APC or PDP”.
