The All Progressives Congress in Kwara state announced the suspension of all outdoor campaigning activities for the next week in honor of House of Representatives leader Magaji Olawoyin, who passed away on Monday.
Olawoyin passed away on Monday after a brief illness.
The party’s state chairman Sunday Fagbemi said in a statement: “We hereby call on all our party bodies, candidates and support groups to suspend all outdoor rallies and campaign activities during the next seven days until after the Fidau prayer. .
“This is in honor of one of our leaders and brothers, the Hon. Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin.
“We pray that Allah grants Al-Jannah to all our dead, especially the leader of the Kwara State 9th House of Assembly, the Hon. Abubakar Magaji Olawoyin”.
State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who sympathized with the family of the late lawmaker and the Kwara State 9th House of Assembly over the death of the House leader, described the incident as sad and shocking.
The governor in a statement by his chief press secretary Rafiu Ajakaye said: “I sympathize with the Emir of Ilorin, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, his immediate and extended family, all the people of the central Magaji state constituency Ngeri/Ilorin.
“I especially send our condolences to the House whose leader Olawoyin was until his death this morning. We will miss in him a grassroots politician, a party center man and a great legislator who truly distinguished himself as the leader of the 9th House of Assembly.
“I pray to Allah Almighty, the Forgiving and the Merciful, to forgive and grant the Hon. Olawoyin al-Jannah Firdaus and comfort his family”.
