The Kwara state government on Saturday poured out the whopping sum of N8.5 million and the award for excellence on the Kwara athletes who have made the state proud in 2022 to cap off the year.

Speaking on the occasion, Kwara State Sports Commission Chairman Bola Magaji praised the athletes for their patience, despite bullying from other states, noting that the current administration is determined to improve the welfare of their athletes.

Magaji, who expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to transform the sports sector, said honoring the state’s athletes was a dream come true.

AbdulKadir Biliqis-Abolore, Board member representing Para athletes on the Commission, said the Governor has shown genuine love and passion for Para athletes, with his end-of-year recognition and award, adding that the honor will bring out the best in them in future competitions.

Each Para athlete went home with the sum of N200,000, N150,000 and N100,000 for gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, while Offa Volleyball Club netted N1million, Offa Football Club and the soccer team Amputee received N500,000 respectively.

Wheelchair basketball raised N300,000 as a thank you for their milestones in the year 2022.
