Kwara Politics: IEDPU urges Bolaji and Mustapha to cease fire

As the upcoming general elections approach, a call has been made to political parties and candidates for various elective offices to avoid bitterness in the vote-seeking processes to ensure the unceasing maintenance of the characteristic tranquility of the Emirate of Ilorin and its surroundings.

This appeal was made by the national president of the Ilorin Emirate Progressive Union of Descendants (IEDPU), Alhaji Aliyu Otta Uthman, fsi, while reacting to the exchange of fire power between a former Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi and the Turaki from Ilorin, Mallam Saliu. Mustapha, who are candidates for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), respectively, in next month’s elections.

Alhaji Uthman, in a statement he personally signed, said he has followed the exchange of written interactions that were laden with unfriendly expressions between the two camps with great concern that his followers would lead them beyond the intentions of the two. politicians. and he felt the need to appeal to the two gentlemen to allow peace to reign.

The retired intelligence chief described the two gladiators as distinguished and peace-loving patriots who normally should and would not want the peace of the people they seek to represent tempered and therefore called for an immediate ceasefire. and unconditionally in the interest of all.

“The issue here is not who is right or who is wrong, but the peace of our community. We don’t want anything that presents us to the rest of the world as intolerant and violent,” Alhaji Uthman said.

He recalled his call to all political gladiators at the opening ceremony of his 57th national conference held late last year, where he advised them to pursue their ambitions so that the peace and harmony of the Ilorin Emirate are not threatened.

He added that if the two gladiators appreciated what is happening as a mere exchange of political talk, their supporters and sympathizers may not see it as such and feel incited to turn to violence.

The Union said that the Ilorin Emirate Peace Committee was formed with the approval of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, and chaired by a retired Chief Justice of Nigeria, the Hon. Alpha Belgore, GCON, will soon begin its work with a view to ensuring that peace and harmony prevail before, during and after the general elections scheduled for next month.
