The Kwara State Government has poured out the huge sum of N8.5m and the Excellence Award on its athletes who have made the state proud in 2022.
State Sports Commission Chief Executive Mallam Bola Magaji praised the athletes for their patience, despite intimidation by poaching from other states.
He said; “The present administration is determined to improve the well-being of its athletes.”
Mallam Magaji, who expressed confidence in Governor AbdulRazaq’s ability to transform the sports sector, said honoring the state’s athletes was a dream come true.
In his goodwill message, Kwara State Television Service Board Chairman Hameed Adio described Governor AbdulRazaq as someone of few words and many actions.
He stressed that the cash reward for state athletes was an indication that the present administration was committed to sports development in all its ramifications.
Adio encouraged parents and guides to support their children and pupils in taking up sports as a career, to ensure their growth from the grassroots.
Also speaking, a CAF instructor and former University of Ilorin registrar Emmanuel Obafemi applauded Governor AbdulRazaq for celebrating the state’s athletes with a cash reward, noting that the recognition would spur them to positively perform at the many championships. to come.
A veteran handball player, Mr. Jide Ojomu said that the government of Governor AbdulRazaq has changed the narratives with its approach to sports development, urging athletes to reciprocate the gesture in the coming years by winning more laurels for the state.
AbdulKadir Abolore, Board member representing Para athletes on the Commission, said the Governor has shown genuine love and passion for Para athletes, with his year-end recognition and award.
He added that the honor would bring out the best in them in future competitions.
Each Para athlete went home with the sum of two hundred thousand, one hundred fifty thousand and one hundred thousand naira respectively, while Offa Volleyball Club received one million naira while Offa Football Club received five hundred thousand naira. The amputee football team got 500,000 naira and the wheelchair basketball team got 300,000 naira as thanks for their milestones in the year 2022.
