The Nigerian Civil Defense and Security Corps Lagos Command on Friday confirmed the arrest of a 24-year-old suspected child rapist.
The suspect, Ridwan Akinbode, who hails from Oyo state and resides in the Bariga area of Lagos state, was said to have been arrested a week after a victim reported her experience to the Command.
It was deduced that the suspect liked to lure his victims to an unfinished building where he would carry out the crime.
However, his luck ran out on Friday when agents from the commando’s Unit against Trafficking in Persons and Gender caught him at his hideout in Bariga.
Corps Commander Eweka Okoro, in a statement issued by Public Relations Officer Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the matter was reported to the gender unit last week after his victim was raped a second time.
The statement read in part: “The alleged pedophile was arrested following due diligence, credible and actionable intelligence taken by command staff, as the matter was reported to the aforementioned unit last week.
“Preliminary investigations showed that the suspect first had carnal knowledge of his 15-year-old victim in an unfinished building where he lured her two years ago. He made another attempt in October 2022 before he was finally arrested by our men.”
The command said it partnered with the International Medical Foundation for Women at Risk and other non-governmental and human rights groups to conduct medical examinations on the victim “in an attempt to bring the culprit to justice.”
