Lagos State Command Police PR officer Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed that one person was killed in the riots that occurred in the Ojota area of the state in the early hours of Monday.
the punch reports that agitators from the Yoruba Nation had gathered to demonstrate in Ojota earlier today, during which riots broke out.
“In the early hours of today, hundreds of criminals disguised as agitators for the Yoruba Nation came out, disrupting social and commercial activities in the Ojota area of the state.
“A team of police, made up of the Alausa Division and the Incursion Response Squad, quickly intervened to disperse the illegal assembly and prevent the collapse of law and order. The criminals attacked the police, shooting and destroying two vehicles in the process.
“One person has been confirmed dead, while two police officers shot by the criminals are currently receiving treatment. Four suspects have been arrested and investigations have begun.
“Meanwhile, normality has been restored in the area. Lagos residents are urged to continue their legal business as measures have been put in place to prevent further breakdown of law and order; and the situation continues to be closely monitored.
“It is imperative to state unequivocally that the Lagos State Police Command will not allow any person or group of persons, in any form, to disturb the peace currently enjoyed in the State,” PPRO said in a statement on Twitter.
It added that, “RRS officers and patrol vehicles were shot at by several scoundrels wielding pump-action rifles.”
